Support
Email support@byronthegreat.com. In the app, Settings > Send Feedback opens an email with the build number and connection type filled in.
Connecting to your boat
- Join the boat's Wi-Fi on the phone first. Abeam reaches the gateway over that network.
- Open the menu (three dots), tap Connection, and pick a preset or enter the gateway's address and port. Then Apply and Reconnect.
- The Status section shows the connection state and how many messages have been received from the gateway.
- NMEA 2000 gateways need to be set to a raw or ASCII output. Yacht Devices YDWG-02 uses RAW on port 1457; Actisense W2K-1 uses N2K ASCII on port 60001. Check your unit's settings page.
- Signal K servers are reached on port 3000 unless you changed it.
Alarms with the screen off
Anchor and off course alarms keep the app running in the background while they are armed. This uses battery. Focus modes and Low Power Mode can delay notifications. The alarm sound still plays from the app.
Please read before you sail
Abeam is not a navigation chart. The map shows no charted depths, rocks, shoals, wrecks, cables, restricted areas, buoys or lights. Soundings and the depth track come from your boat's instruments and show only where you have already been. Navigate with an official chart plotter or a charting app with real nautical charts, and paper charts. Alarms can fail depending on conditions. You use Abeam at your own risk.
